Artists for Pasaquan

Buena Vista, GA - On Saturday, November 4, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., artists of all varieties - some professional, some students, some amateur, some eccentric -- will gather at the visionary art site of Pasaquan near Buena Vista, Georgia, to pay tribute to the legacy of Pasaquan's creator, Eddie Owens Martin, and to show their support for the preservation of his acclaimed masterpiece, Pasaquan.

As many as three dozen artists from around the Deep South representing a wide variety of styles and media will set up displays of their recent work and demonstrate their artistic methods and skills for the visiting public. Among the many artists who will be at Pasaquan on November 4 are Tom Swanston, an award winning Atlanta painter who works in the nearly lost technique of encaustic, or wax painting; Helena Meek of Marion County, Georgia, who was the recent winner of the 1st place award in  the Southern Artists' League Fall Exhibit at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts in Valdosta; Bond and Meg Anderson, Parrott, Georgia, who create unique large outdoor musical instruments using natural wood, metal, and a variety of other materials; and Ralph Frank, Columbus, Georgia's well-known eccentric sign artist, self-taught outdoor muralist, and extemporaneous dancer extraordinaire.

Artists for Pasaquan is timed to coincide with this year's Rural America Festival in Buena Vista. The Rural America Festival is a celebration of life in rural America held annually on the first Saturday in November at the Marion County Courthouse Square.

Saturday, November 4, will be the final opening day at Pasaquan during the 2006 season. The site will not be open again for public tours until the first Saturday in April, 2007. Admission to Pasaquan is $5.00 per person. Children under six are admitted free.
